Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
